vivo just launched a new smartphone – the Y200+. This is part of the incredibly convoluted Yxxx line, which has seen no less than six iterations in the Y100 generation. The Y200 family, has already one-upped it with seven members so far – that’s eight with this one.
So, the Y200+ launches as a theoretical update to the Y100+, except it’s identical to that model in most respects, and where it differs it’s actually a downgrade, spec-wise. We’re left scratching our heads about this one.
The Y200+ has a smaller 6.68″ 720×1608 resolution LCD screen with the same 120 Hz refresh rate, the same 6,000 mAh battery with 44W wired charging and rear cameras (50 MP main + 2 MP), a 5 MP selfie camera where its predecessor had an 8 MP one, and the same IP64 dust and splash resistance, the same 7.99 mm thickness and 199g weight.
It does however have a different design on the rear, so maybe that makes launching it worth it? Oh, and its speakers are apparently 300% louder. The Y200+ has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage and runs Origin OS 4. As that probably revealed, this is a China-only model for now. It’s available starting at CNY 1,099 ($150 or €145 at the current exchange rates).
