Xiaomi has officially made its first Bootloader unlocking quiz of 2025 available today at 10:00 (China time) for Chinese consumers. Xiaomi, requests its consumers today to use the same device for the entire process of unlocking, including responding to questions of the quiz, registration, applying, binding, unlocking, and use of the unlocked device. Also, after gaining unlocking qualification, consumers must get the binding and unlocking of devices done in 336 hours (14 days).
Stricter Policy for Unlocking Bootloader 2025
Starting from January 1, 2025, Xiaomi has made Bootloader unlocking authorization even more stringent. Previously, up to three bound devices could be unlocked within the validity period. But under this policy, only one device can be unlocked for a single account. This is a significant policy shift for Xiaomi’s bootloader security and device customization, and brings the company into line with other major smartphone manufacturers, who limit unlocking for security.
Decline of Flashtag Market and Security Issues
As the flashing (custom ROM) industry keeps declining, Xiaomi, formerly famous for its open bootloader policy, is also catching up with industry trends. Other smartphone companies have also tightened their restriction policies for similar purposes of securing and protecting against unapproved modifications, which may affect performance and user experience.
With Xiaomi’s policy changes recently, frequent flashers of custom ROM and tamperers of devices must be very careful with their choices, for they will be locked into a single device.
