Introduction

Flip season may seem like it’s winding down, with iPhones and Pixels stealing the spotlight, and plenty of Galaxy Flip and Motorola Razr reviews already behind us. But the story isn’t over yet. Honor has joined the stage with its own foldable — the elegant Honor Magic V Flip 2.

You could be forgiven for missing its launch – Honor hasn’t announced any plans for an international release beyond China. Still, it’s an intriguing device, and we were eager to review it to see how it stacks up, especially considering Honor’s strong track record with the Magic V number series.

The Honor Magic V Flip 2 is a high-end clamshell coming one year after the original V Flip and improving on every aspect of the pioneer – design, screen, performance, cameras, battery. In addition to its mainstream colorways – purple, silver, and gray – it can also be found in our striking limited Prof. Jimmy Choo Yeang Keat OBE edition in shimmering Blue, featuring an exclusive design, bundle perks, and a custom UI theme.

But let’s start with the basics. The Honor Magic V Flip 2 introduces an improved foldable design with IP58 and IP59 water resistance, an improved hinge, and creaseless UTG atop the internal 6.82-inch 1232p LTPO OLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate. The 4″ cover screen has similar capabilities as the internal one, together with 10-bit color depth, Dolby Vision video support, and incredibly high peak brightness.

The chipset has seen a massive update – it’s the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, up from the Gen 1 inside the original V Flip.

There are two cameras at the back of this Flip – a 200MP primary for up to 4x zoom, and a 50MP ultrawide shooter with macro capabilities. Let’s not forget the 50MP selfie camera with autofocus.

The new V Flip 2 is powered by a large 5,500mAh battery that supports 80W wired and 50W wireless charging.
