Xiaomi founder, chairman, CEO, National People’s Congress deputy, and Kingsoft Software Chairman Lei Jun spoke to the press this morning during the opening “Delegate Channel” of the Third Session of the 14th National People’s Congress.

Lei Jun outlined the performance of the past five years based on the company’s commitment to innovation. “Five years ago, we made a commitment to spending 100 billion yuan on core tech. We spent about 105 billion yuan to date,” he informed the meeting. The big research and development investment has seen the company rank within the top three globally in the mobile phone market for 18 consecutive quarters. The company sold 170 million mobile phones last year, which was 14% market share globally. That means one out of every seven mobile phones sold last year was a Xiaomi. The company continues to gather momentum within the premium market segment.

Xiaomi’s Ambitions to the High

Lei Jun emphasized that manufacturing is the core and the force of the country. As a flagship manufacturing brand, Xiaomi will stick to innovation through technology and top-shelf development. Lei Jun again emphasized that the company will stick to using the latest artificial intelligence technology to every device to ensure that customers are empowered through the latest technology.

Future Plans

Speaking at the new product launch conference last month, president of the mobile phone division and partner of Xiaomi Lu Weibing said that Xiaomi has upgraded continuously from 4K to 6K in the high-end market. In the next five years, Xiaomi will break through the 6K+ ultra-high-end market in an all-round way.
