A recent exchange on Weibo shed light on the strategy of Xiaomi in the case of laptops. Asked if Xiaomi had ever abandoned its own laptop plans, Wang Hua, Public Relations General Manager at Xiaomi Group, said the company did not give up on that idea. He noted, “Yes, Mr. Lu said that Redmi has done a good job in notebooks, and we will consider Xiaomi notebooks later.”
Lu Weibing’s Vision for Laptops of Xiaomi and Redmi
The president of Xiaomi, Lu Weibing, corroborated this to say that once Redmi’s products are mature, Xiaomi will review its laptop business. Considering how the Redmi notebooks have taken off by prioritizing the balance between performance, portability, and battery life, it would now appear that Xiaomi is focusing on perfecting the lineup of Redmi before bringing back the laptops under the Xiaomi brand.
Redmi Book 16 2025 Launch Details
The announcement comes with the Redmi Book 16 2025 going up for pre-order. This laptop, which is set to make its debut at the Turbo 4 New Product Launch Conference early next year, features some impressive upgrades:

In June 2024, Xiaomi announced that repair services would cease, effective May 31, 2024, for the first batch of Xiaomi laptops. The models affected include the following:

- Xiaomi Notebook Air 13 Series
- Xiaomi Notebook Air 13.3 Series
- Xiaomi Notebook 15.6 Series
- Xiaomi Notebook Pro 15.6 Series
- Xiaomi Gaming Laptop series 15.6
While these models were innovative some time back, they have presently reached the end of their product lifecycle.
Future Outlook
With Redmi notebooks still keeping up very well, this is indeed the strategy of Xiaomi to refine its ecosystem via Redmi, while keeping in mind a possible revival of the Xiaomi laptop series for higher focus and quality in the user experience. If it were to return to the laptop market, there’s expectation for something more innovative with deeper integrations into Xiaomi’s ecosystem and at competitive pricing. For now, Redmi leads from the front in what has been Xiaomi’s notebook efforts and, until now, has set a promising stage for what should presumably be a strong resurgence or comeback for the laptops retaining the Xiaomi branding.
